At first I thought I was the only one who had these thoughts going through my head. However, the more I talked about it the more I realized a lot of people I know have the exact same thoughts that I do. It all started when I was at a concert. I was standing there having a great time when all of a sudden the thought "If someone started shooting right now, where would I go?" It is a sad reality but it is reality.
Now everywhere I go I have these thoughts. Whether it is a movie theatre, college classroom, an elementary school, a state fair, a bar, or a shopping mall. Some people may think it is a little excessive but through the recent years there have been shootings that have happened at all of these places.
It is terrifying to think through this process because honestly if it started happening I am not sure what I would do or where I would go. But it is honestly just sad that when in areas of a lot of people, these are the thoughts that are going through our heads. The reason these thoughts are going through our heads is because of how often these shootings happen nowadays.
I wish I had some type of solution to this problem to get rid of the fear that is growing in our country but I honestly do not know if there is one. Gun control is not the answer because people who really do want to shoot up a place will get a gun no matter what the law is. The only thing that comes to mind is that people simply become nicer. But unfortunately, I am not sure that we are headed in that direction any time soon.
So unfortunately for now we will simply have these terrifying thoughts in our heads as we enter a major league sporting event, walking across a college campus, or are in any area with a large amount of people. It truly saddens my heart that I grew up in a world where I felt safe sleeping with my front door unlocked but now live in a world where I am scared to attend a movie.
