Where Thank Yous Matter Most

Where Thank Yous Matter Most

With the recent events that have happened across the world, good and bad, we tend to forget to say thank you. My mom recently had knee surgery and every single surgeon that was at the surgical center made sure that she was comfortable, my dad and I were taken care of and as we were heading out they all stopped what they were doing to tell us bye. How sweet! Here are five thank yous to people who don't get recognition they deserve.

1. The doctors and nurses who work endlessly to make sure we are healthy.

Thank you. After my mom's surgery, I couldn't have been more satisfied with how well y'all took care of my mom. Then I realized that there are so many doctors and nurses that don't ever get thanked for the saving lives of people I don't know. I do know that all the late nights, emergency calls and tears shed, there are times that you did everything you could and sometimes that is enough. You continue to save lives and change the lives of others on a daily basis that I promise you, you mean more to those families than you realize.

2. To the law enforcement officers who save our cities daily.

To you, I want to thank you for protecting my family and me as we do whatever we want. I sometimes forget what y'all do, that I sometimes take advantage. There have been plenty of times that I have driven recklessly or was just being stupid but it only took me seeing you in the distance to get my act together. Y'all are constantly on my mind especially after recent events because y'all are so under appreciated in all communities. I am thankful to live in a city that when I am in danger or in trouble, Stephenville PD or Tarleton PD will come without second thought. Thank you for making my city safe.

3. To the teachers, coaches and other school administration.

As summer is slowly coming to a close, the end of camps and the start of inservice, you're about to get your new set of kids. I am the child of a teacher and I know the blood, sweat and literal tears that go into getting ready for the new school year. The kids will drive you nuts and make you want to discipline them like you do your own children, but your love and dedication to them is amazing. Thank you for doing everything you can to make the students successful in all subjects in school and in life. Some teachers make a big enough impact on our lives that they changed the whole attitude of the whole year. Thank you.

4. To our military and armed forces.

There is no one I'd rather say thank you to over and over again than our military and armed forces. Because of all of the hard work and sacrifices y'all make, it makes it easier for me to do what I want and still feel protected. To be honest, I wish I could individually wrap my arms around you and say thank you. No matter the military branch you're in, you're making a difference. Thank you.

5. To our Lord and Savior.

Lord, thank you for giving me the privilege to know so many people that I get to say thank you to. You have blessed me, my family and this world with amazing people to do extraordinary things. Without you, there would be no one to say thank you to. Continue to protect them as they protect me. Continue to give them the knowledge, courage and ability to finish your work. We love you and thank you. Amen.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
