Where Is Your Safe Place?
Joan Richardson

Having a safe place is very important to me. A safe place is where you feel comfortable expressing and recognizing your wants, needs, and desires. Determining the location of your safe place is entirely up to you, as long as the location contains the ability to make you feel important.

A safe place has many purposes, but most importantly, it makes you feel as if you have a place in this world. This is a place where you are able to be your best yourself. This is a place where you are able to envision a better world. This is a place where anything seems possible.

Having a place where you are able to unwind and let your mind roam is very relaxing. Being able to remove yourself from distractions, find yourself as an individual, and learn about what your dreams is how you develop as a person. I strongly believe in the power of this place and its ability to let your dreams soar. Below are a few reasons why you should visit your safe place:

It establishes comfort.

The beautiful thing about your safe place is that it is all yours. This is a place that is catered to your needs. Whether it is in the middle of nowhere, or surrounded by tons of people, this is where you feel relaxed. Within this space, you feel comfortable with yourself and your ideas.

It builds confidence.

Your safe place serves one mission, to make you feel confident. This place should make you feel comfortable, while also inspiring you to make all of your dreams come true. Whether your mind is roaming through the trees, riding along with the waves, or soaring in the sky, you have the ability to envision a better world.

It creates results.

Within this safe place, you feel as if you are able to conquer the world. There is nothing holding you back as you are alone with your thoughts. You are able to identify changes you want to make in the world and there are no limits in front of you. Leaving this safe place and facing the real world is difficult, however it creates better results as changes are made.

My safe place is on the shoreline of Lake Erie. Established in 1895, members have been coming to the Erie Yacht Club for over one hundred years to enjoy the breathtaking view by the water’s edge. Growing up in Erie, I spent many of my summer days taking the boat out with my family for a day at the beach, eating meals while listening as the waves come crashing in, and relaxing on the dock as the sun set. This is the place I go to when I need to clear my mind, find my purpose, and tell myself that I am able to change the world.

Every day I wish I could return to this safe place, which is one of Erie’s best-hidden treasures. My memories with family and friends at the Erie Yacht Club are ones I will always treasure!

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

I'm an anthropology major, and I love every minute of it. I couldn't tell you why, but I guess there's just something about studying different lifestyles that absolutely fascinates me. But anthropology majors definitely have our weird sides, especially when you go to a school that is filled with mostly Business and Bio majors. But us weirdos definitely have a lot in common, specifically these 16 things.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
