Everyday we are engulfed with negative, devastating and sad news. We hear nations waging war against other nations, people killing one another for silly things like the color of someone’s skin or for a couple of dollars. We are constantly hearing these endless monstrosities rooted within the human intentions. But what good does it do to pay evil with evil? What good does it do to ignore the needy? This world, despite the evil that’s rapidly being reproduced like any other time before, is growing selfish.
In the last couple of weeks, the world turned upside down completely. The police killing unarmed black civilians, the Nice attack, the Turkey coup attempt to overthrow the President, which in the process killed many people. Please do not forget about the refugee crisis the news never covers anymore, do not also forget other issues that are never revisited. The South Sudan issue, people living in poverty, human trafficking and political issues in other countries that never make it on the news.
The human nature is the cause of it all and in fact these things happen as a result of disagreements and hatred.
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
The human nature is complex in which seeks power above all things, validation, and self-respect. The culture in which we are living in is designed to keep us in order, the order to serve ourselves before we serve anyone else. The order to keep us focused in what’s temporary to the point we lose a sense of insight and empathy to what’s happening in the world.
In the midst of chaos, we find ourselves lost in the tangle of hopelessness and compassion the world is losing drastically. We ask ourselves, what is next? How bad could it get? We see anger, sadness and frustration around us. People’s unexpressed emotions paint a blurry picture on their faces, leaving others with the same exact results.
Through these hard times, we can’t help but include our stress with what’s going on with the world. It is normal to subconsciously do such things, but we have to keep in mind to not beat ourselves with it! It is through hard times like these that we need to ground ourselves with our constant, God. All else is temporary, floating above our abilities to comprehend, above our ability to make sense of the puzzle pieces. The only way we can cope is through giving it all to the one God that holds all the power and sees these tragedies. In this bittersweet world, we need to learn how to guard our hearts from aching as we long for love and harmony.
