To start off, I am a proud thespian of my high school theater troupe, and I live and breathe anything theater and music related. I have also danced for most of my life. I first started "hardcore" theater when I was a freshman. I've always enjoyed preforming, I had been singing for quite a while know and as I mention I had been doing dance forever, but this was the first time in my life that I had ever entered the theater world. Now those of you who know or are in the theater world know what I mean when I say that theater is a whole different beast of its own in the performing world. You have to use so many different elements to achieve the final picture on stage, and don't get me started on how competitive it all is.
My way of making myself known was to show off my dance skills. I felt like I did this well, and it was something that differentiated me from this massive group of high-schoolers that wanted to make their mark on the stage. Well let me tell you this, that was one of the best decisions I have made in my life. The opportunity that opened itself to me was amazing! As a freshman, my director wanted me to choreograph numbers and be in shows in order to utilize my dance ability. Granted I was (and still am) a very hard and passionate worker which probably help play into these decisions, but that's beside the point.
Three years later, I am currently working on choreographing two shows. This year already I have already choreographed/co-choreographed two other shows, and one of which we went to our competitions with. Being a student choreographer has been such an amazing experience so far. I have gained skills such as leadership, quick thinking, and discipline. I will continue to head down this path as a choreographer for the moment, and who knows? It might take me somewhere.
