Instead of the oil and sanguine and smoke that I see

Remember the times I held your thumb when you were anxious

And when you'd tap four times back to say you love me more

Instead of the steady tapping my foot now does waiting for someone who can come close to you

And if you move on

And find someone who looks at you the way that I did and still

Remember the times you looked at me that way

or shook your head but still laughed at one of my awful jokes

or the times we told each other about our life goals and the dreams we wish to accomplish

Then maybe I won't be

a stranger who completes you
