I am currently living with 10 of my best friends. We are all college students and love to have our share of fun, however this semester I have to take a step back because I am also a student athlete and fall is my sport’s season. So this semester I’m the mom of the group. We’ve been at school for a little over a week and here are the six things that have happened to me in my new role as mom.

1. I am the automatic chauffeur.

Since I'm in season, I can't really do a lot of the normal college weekend activities, so I'm usually available to drive my friends around. It's not the funnest job but it's definitely important and I like knowing that my roommates trust me to drive their cars.

2. I make everything neat and tidy in the common areas.

Unfortunately, we do not have a dishwasher. Such a tragedy. I've always hated doing the dishes at home, but at school I don't really mind it. It actually kind of bothers me when there's dishes unwashed in our sink so I just do them when I see them, even if they're not mine. I'm always finding myself tidying up in our kitchen or living room or bathrooms. I always feel like my mother when I walk around cleaning up.

3. I take care of those who need it.

The answer is yes. 100 times yes.

4. I make sure nobody got lost along the way.

Because I am living with 10 other girls, it is nearly impossible for all of us to travel as a pack all of the time. So we will be separated on a regualr basis. However, at the end of the night I check to make sure everyone is safe and sound and not stranded somewhere or in some type of danger.

5. I love my roommates unconditionally.

Just as my mother loves me undoncidionally, I love my roommates unconditionally. No matter what they do, what drama they cause, they'll always have a special place in my heart.

6. I am always concerned with everyone’s well being and safety.

As a mom, you're always concerned with everyone's safety and well being. I have recently discovered this feeling and this is exactly how I feel when I know all of my roommates are at home in their beds after a night out.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
