When You're Kinda-Sorta Vegetarian

What's wrong with a cheese platter for dinner?

I am not a huge fan of any meat. I don’t think that it tastes good and the texture is weird. I also have a problem with chewing my food for what feels like five hours before you can swallow it. Now, I am not a full on vegetarian. I love sushi and I’m not afraid to eat a hamburger every once in a blue moon. Here are some of my daily thoughts when it comes to food and on being an almost vegetarian.

No, it's not a health thing.

No, I'm not trying to save all the animals.

I just don't like it okay?!

Is there meat in this dish?

Can we not put meat in this?

Okay, what if we put it on the side?

If you ground up the meat really well so that I can’t tell it’s in this spaghetti then I will probably eat some of it.

Oh look, I managed to eat all of my spaghetti and leave all the meat in the bottom of my bowl.

Is there a side dish to go along with the steak, because if not, I will starve.

If you have to use a knife to eat some kind of meat, then I’m not having any.

Steak, Pork Chops, Ribs….No thank you.

And don’t get me started on bacon.

We’re having a BBQ? Great, looks like I will be having chips for lunch today.

Hotdogs??? LOL, I would rather eat my arm instead.

I will eat a hamburger only if it is from Five Guys and if it has everything on it so that you can’t actually taste the hamburger part.

What’s wrong with some pasta salad? Or some regular salad? Or a cheese platter for dinner instead?

Why do people always mix meat in with the rest of their food? WHY?!

It just makes it that much harder to eat around it.

I still don’t understand why we just can’t have pasta and cheese for dinner every night.

I should probably have some protein in my life, yeah?

Peanut Butter it is!

BBQ restaurant for dinner? Only if they have mashed potatoes and mac and cheese that I can order instead.

Can I get an order of pasta please. No I would not like to add any meat. Yes, I’m serious.

People trying to ruin mac and cheese with chicken or hot dogs.

What if we order a full meal and you can have the main course (meat) and I can have the side (mashed potatoes)

I’m actually a cheap date, so you should be thanking me that I didn’t order a steak.

I can handle meat in one meal per day. That’s my limit.

Most people think that it’s the end of the world when you don’t enjoy all meat products. But the reality is that I just don’t think it’s that good. I have to be in the mood to eat a hamburger or I have to be incredibly hungry and there are no other options for me to eat just a piece of meat.

My boyfriend's goal is to get me to order a steak one day. He probably shouldn’t count on that, but I did start to eat hamburgers again, so who knows what the future might hold.

Peace out meat lovers. I'll be over here with my cheese platter and some wine.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
