It's strange really, when your birthday rolls around and you finally have that iconic moment where you have the power and confidence to hand the bartender/waiter your ID because you're finally legal. As a fresh 21 year old, here are 21 things that every 21 year old experiences in their first days and months as an "adult":

1. Is this actually happening?! Does this mean I'm old?! Does this mean I'm cool?

2. What more do I have to look forward to after 21?! Is this my peak age physically and legally? Am I officially a grandma?

3. Do all my younger friends think of me as a full blown adult? Does this mean I have to be more responsible?

4. Did they really just put a sombrero on my head and give me a free birthday tequila shot?

5. Tequila. Just Tequila.

6. My friends are encouragers, and I usually love them for it but this may not be the best combination.

7. Food instantly tastes better after that tequila. What is this sensation?

8. Wow, I really just love my friends.

9. Time to play matchmaker!!!!

10. Believe it or not when you turn 21, people watching is just as much fun. It's a great time.

11. Did the bouncer really just wish me "Happy Birthday"?! Yeah he did!! Stand proud and look like an adult.

12. Yeah it's Monday. Yeah it's summer. Yeah it may be dead downtown. Let's just use this as motivation to be more determined to have an insanely good time.

13. Am I gonna make it past dinner? Why did we start with Margaritas? Tequila.

14. Did I mix? Tequila's clear right? What color was I sticking with again?

15. I need to keep moving. Otherwise, I'm going to fall asleep. Bring on the songs with the rhythms.

16. Why is everybody yelling? Oh wait, that's right. Alcohol.

17. Pizza. I want pizza.

18. I need water. I should probably start drinking water.

19. Where's the Tylenol?

20. I should probably mentally prepare for tomorrow. Oh my gosh.

21. Today was just a really good day.

Until next year!!!

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement.
