When Your Roommate Is Now Like A Sister

Never in my life did I think I would get blessed with someone who's like a sister to me.

The transition from high school to college is never an easy one, but having a great roommate definitely makes the experience much more enjoyable. Having a roommate who doubles as your bestfriend from high school also helps a lot. As we've spent these past few months breathing, eating and living in the same space, my bestfriend has turned into more of a sister for me. I'm glad to say that I now feel like I have the sister I've always wanted. Here is what life is like when your roommate becomes like a sister to you.

1. You get into crazy adventures together.

You'll go places you never thought you would together and experience the craziest things imaginable. Maybe the fact we live in NYC makes things a little bit more insane, but the crazy adventures we get into never seem to stop.

2. You are extremely comfortable around each other.

Never would I have thought that I'd be this comfortable sharing a room with someone but I am. You make such conscious choices to respect me and my space and I really appreciate that. I know that if there is ever a problem or something bothering us, we can talk it out and not get passive aggressive or #petty. No matter the topic I'm comfortable talking to you about it and I know you feel the same way.

3. Your family is now my own.

I've really been blessed with you and your family. I have gained so many extended family members (who all seem to look alike) ((I really need a family tree with pictures please)). Whether it be the amazing tickets they give us to go explore, or a simple comment or like on our pictures, they are all so amazing and I love them all dearly. I know that my support system has grown since we've become roommates, starting with you and extending to all of your family members.

4. You always know how to make me laugh.

You know that I went through a very tough few months this year and you never left my side. Although I'm usually the type to shut myself off from the world, you never let me cut off completely and I thank you for that. This is the first time I was able to deal with what was going on in a healthy way and it is because of you and your spirit. You never fail to make me laugh even when you don't necessarily mean to.

5. You're my makeup model.

This may seem like nothing to most, but like I said before, I've never had a sister or a sister figure in my life. So letting me do your makeup, even if I make you into a mermaid, is something that is so important to me and makes me so happy. You know how much I love makeup and practicing it on you makes everything so much more fun.

6. I never get tired of you.

You know that I am such a super independent person that likes her space but somehow that doesn't seem to apply to hanging out with you. Going out and adventuring with you is so much fun and I would never say no to that. You're always a good time and can make me forget about the stupid things that did piss me off earlier in the day. You know how easily I get frustrated with people and want to isolate myself but yet you never annoy me like everyone else. So a big thank you to you.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
