According to cinematic formulas, television show plots don't tend to pick up until mid-first season. However, it's hard to continue to watch a show when you aren't immediately hooked. Because of this, we find ourselves scavenging from show to show, only to go back to watching old episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" or reruns of "FRIENDS." So, for the Netflix nomad, I've compiled a list of shows that have either drawn me in immediately or are worth enduring the wait.

1. Shows about cute boys pretending to be things they're not.

A former druggie turned lawyer? An art thief turned FBI consultant? A directionless bum turned psychic? Three shows, about three completely different things, all geared toward the same plot line. If you've seen either "Suits," "While Collar" or "Psych" and dreaded their ending because you were so invested in them, trust me when I say that you should watch the other two I've listed. If you haven't seen any of them, then trust me, you should look into starting one of them. Out of the three, "Psych" is the goofiest one; the characters are more carefree and a lot of the dialogue revolved around humor. "Suits" and "White Collar" are respectively the more "serious" toned ones, diving deep into a little more darker subjects but still keeping a light element of humor. If I haven't convinced you to take interest into one of these shows yet, then let me just say that Matt Bomer is in "White Collar." If you don't know who he is then hit up the Google search real quick.

2. Shows that will probably make you consider medical school.

Even if you don't know what it's about, I'm sure you've heard about "Grey's Anatomy." The show follows the daughter of a surgeon as she begins her journey after medical school. Along the way she falls in love with an attending neurosurgeon, who I'm sure most of the viewers have fallen in love with as well. Here's a picture of "McDreamy" (as he is referred to sometimes on the show) just for kicks.

Along with "Grey's Anatomy," we have "Scrubs" and "House." Both medical shows but also complete polar opposites. "Scrubs" follows more of a sitcom formula while "House" follows more serious, rare and dangerous medical cases. The dad from Stewart Little is in "House" as well; however, instead of the sweet, caring father he's portrayed as in the film about a talking mouse, he's a narcissistic doctor addicted to Vicodin.

3. Shows that will make you want to visit your nearest Medieval Times.

I'm not going to lie to you, I wasn't interested in "Game of Thrones" until episode nine of season one. It took me eight ONE HOUR LONG episodes before I really got into it. Trust me though, it's WORTH THE WAIT. Also, "Reign." It's an amazing show. Not as twisted as "Game of Thrones," but just as good. It follows the story of Queen Elizabeth I after her marriage with Francis.

4. Shows that will probably make you go hug your mom.

"Parenthood" and "Modern Family" are both very similar in that they follow multiple members of the same family and how they go about their day to day life. However, "Parenthood" is an extremely darker version of "Modern Family" as it addresses teen pregnancy, sexuality and infidelity throughout the seasons. "Modern Family," on the other hand, dealt with one of the characters buying an alpaca in one episode. Either way, both of these shows are a must see.

5. If it ain't foreign it's borin'.

If you've seen "Parks and Recreation" then you NEED to watch Aziz Ansari's Netflix original "Master of None." A show that breaks barriers and touches on controversial issues through comedy. Another show following a lead character of color is "Jane the Virgin" featuring Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez as Jane. The show follows a driven Hispanic woman whose world was turned upside down when she was accidentally artificially inseminated during a routine gynecologist appointment. Based on a telenovela, this show is definitely not your orthodox sitcom.

That's a wrap this week folks. Happy watching.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
