When You Wish Upon A Star

Dreaming WITH God.

When You Wish Upon A Star

I love dreams. I’m not talking about the dreams you have when you’re sleeping at night, I’m talking about the dreams you have for tomorrow, a year from now, five years from now. Your life dream. One of my favorite things about getting to know someone new (especially if they’re my age and nearing the time where they will start a career) is hearing about their dreams. My favorite question to ask is “so what do you want your life to look like?” But what I love even more is getting the chance to sit there and listen as this person tells me about the passions that God has given them, and I get to see the smile come across their face when they talk about the dreams they have for themselves. However, there is one question I’ve never asked someone that I always wish I had. After the person tells me about their dreams, I want to say “have you told God about those dreams?”

Seems like an odd question, I know. But I’d be interested to hear the response.

I was sitting on my back porch a week ago. Just minding my own business, looking into the woods behind my house. It’s gonna sound weird to some people, but I just felt like God was saying to me. “Hey since you’re not really busy right now, let’s talk about your hopes and dreams.” I kinda was like “uhhh…okay?”

So I just started talking to God. I didn’t hold back. I went through my whole life and told God exactly what I dreamt about. I told Him about what I dreamt about for my career. I told Him what I wanted my husband to be like. How many kids I hoped to have. Where I thought it would be cool to live. I told Him where I hoped to travel someday. I told Him both the biggest dreams in my heart as well as the small and insignificant things like I hope I have a golden retriever. After I got done sharing all this with God, I felt kinda silly. What was the point? To sum it up, I felt like this is what God was saying to me and what He says to each of us about our dreams.

“I love your dreams. I think it’s awesome that you want all those things, and I care about every single dream you’ve ever had and ever will have. Of course, I already knew all those dreams. But I want you to share them with me anyways because I just want to be near to you and talk with you. You sharing your dreams also shows me that you trust me. You’re handing your dreams over to me, and you trust I will do with them what is good and right for you. It doesn’t mean you will get every single dream you just shared with me. Because I know you better than you even know yourself and not every dream you have is right for you. However, trust in the fact that I know the desires of your heart and many of those desires were placed there by me. I have plans for your life that not even you could think of or dream of. No dream is too big for me. No dream is silly. No dream is out of reach. I can make anything happen for you if it is my will. Keep dreaming. I have a great life in store for you.”

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate.
