Most of us college students are home for the summer now. We have finished finals, seen our friends graduate, and are settling in to what will surely be a different chapter of life. No more tests, no more lectures, and for some of us, no more roommates. I have noticed that this change can inspire some feelings of tension in myself and the people around me. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be spending time at home with my family, but a part of me had gotten so used to my routine up at school that it is taking a little time to adjust.
Something that has really helped me through this transition is being grateful for every single step, transition, and person that life brings. I have begun to truly thank people when they tell me that they are happy to see me home for the summer. When the barista hands me my latte, I sincerely thank him for this gift of caffeine. Though I could never thank my parents enough for what they do for me, I try to. Thanking God is most important to me; Heaven knows where I would be without Him.
Have you ever noticed how when you genuinely say thank you, it makes you smile? When I thank someone from my heart and really mean to express to them how much gratitude I have for them, it lifts my spirit. Even only thanking them for a simple gesture such as holding the door, it seems to lift everyone's moods. So, to everyone that is reading this article, thank you! I appreciate you, really, I do.
