When You Say It's Fine, But It's Not

As I get deeper and deeper into life, I am faced with more adult-like responsibilities. I now have to worry about schoolwork while worrying about real work so I can worry about rent and groceries and gas and the list goes on and on.

I know I’m not the only one: my roommates and my closest friends all worry about the same stuff, so I am assuming that all twenty-somethings worry about all this stuff, too. At the end of the day, we have to motivate ourselves. We wouldn’t get through these rough years if we didn’t have a positive outlook on life. When things go horribly wrong or just not as you planned, don’t get upset with yourself. Just tell yourself “it’s fine” and move on with your life. If you are having trouble with this, I will give you some examples of times when you can say "it’s fine" when it actually is the not fine.

When you open the fridge and realize the only thing you have is one slice of cheese.

Slap that one piece of cheese in between 2 slices of bread, say “it’s fine” and move on.

When you forget to wash your work uniform until last minute and you don’t have enough time to let it dry completely.

Put on that wet shirt and whenever your manager asks why you’re wearing a wet t-shirt, just tell them how incompetent you are but make sure you let them know “it’s fine.”

When you forget to set an alarm and miss your class.

Just email your professor, sure they won’t care and they will probably take points off your attendance grade but you know what? “It’s fine.”

When you forget you have an assignment due until the night before it's due.

“It’s fine” because you remembered and you can totally pull a B-worthy assignment out in one night.

When you check your bank account and you are in the negatives.

I mean “it’s fine” that you get a $35 charge everyday your bank account is in the negative. You get paid in a week, just seven days, which means you’ll only be -$245 by then.

When McDonald's messes up your order.

Sure, this extra fry is great. I didn’t want mustard on my sandwich but “it’s fine.”

Just remember to always keep a positive outlook on life and to always remember, “it’s fine.”

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
