The ending of the semester is coming so, for most college students flex dollars are becoming limited. Of course, most of us have swipes for the school buffet but let’s be honest, sometimes those just don’t cut it. Especially now since food is essential while studying for finals and even during finals week. It becomes a constant choice between choosing ice cream or a salad. I know most of you would pick the dessert, as would I. But how about we try to get the best of both worlds and go off campus to eat without breaking the bank. So, let’s talk about some off-campus meals that you can get for $5 and under…

Chick-Fil-A

Get an 8-piece chicken nugget or a chicken sandwich with a medium fry for only $4.70.

Dairy Queen

The famous 5 buck lunch comes with your choice of a cheeseburger, chicken strips or a chicken wrap and includes fries, a drink and a sundae!

McDonald’s

We all know of the dollar menu, so don’t forget to look through that but you could also get a McDouble, a McChicken and a medium fry for just $4.38!

Subway

For those of you who don’t know, Subway no longer has $5 foot longs BUT, you can get a spicy Italian sub and a cookie for just $4.50.

Taco Bell

Wow, get a Doritos Locos taco, Beefy Nacho Griller and a drink for just $4.08, during their 2-5pm happy hour. ($4.57 outside of happy hour)

Wendy’s

Why don’t you try the 4 for $4 deal? It comes with four chicken nuggets, a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger OR a Crispy Chicken BLT, fries and a drink. You could also add a small frost for just $0.99.

Chipotle

There is no shame in ordering off the kids menu! This comes with 2 soft tacos, chips and an apple juice! All for just $4.75.

KFC

The $5 fill up will really fill you up! Get chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, a biscuit, a drink and a cookie for a great price! (Side and main entre have more options)

Burger King

5 things for $4!?!?! You heard it right! BK offers a bacon cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, fries, a drink and a cookie for just $4!

Also, don’t forget that being a college student does have its perks! You can get discounts at many restaurants by just showing your valid student ID. Here are some of the places that offer student discounts:

Chipotle, Qdoba and Chick-Fil-A all offer a free drink with the presentation of a college student ID.

McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Waffle House, Arby’s and Buffalo Wild Wings all offer 10% off of the total purchase with a valid student ID.

Obviously I know this can get very expensive, especially if you are 100% out of flex dollars… In that case, I wish you luck!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
