You loved the wrong person. Everyone has. Each and every human has poured too much into someone who cared too little.

Maybe it was the boy you fell in love with in high school who spent his time playing with your heart when he should have been guarding it.
Maybe it was the girl who strung you along and used your time and resources when all you wanted was to care for her.
Maybe it was the dad you spent years trying to make proud, trying to show that you were worth something more.
Maybe it was a friend who spent your friendship lying to you and manipulating you.
Whoever they were, they were wrong for you, and you loved them regardless. You couldn't help it. You spent your time and your emotions trying to make someone happy who couldn't be helped, couldn't be pleased.
It didn't matter for you though, because you found joy in seeking joy for others. You found peace in showing love to someone who made it so difficult to show that.
However, amidst that joy and peace, you found pain in not being loved well in return.
But how much more beautiful will it be when you love the right person? How much more satisfying will it be when you love the person who will love you back? I'm not just speaking romantically. I'm speaking about the friendships, family, and love you will find in the people who are right for you.
This time spent on those who didn't return your care wasn't wasted. It isn't useless. You learned the meaning of unconditional love. This is a gift, and it cannot be wasted.
Give your fears and your struggles to God, give your pain and inability to trust to the Lord. Know that He is above all and that He has the ability to bring the right people into your life. Trust that he will.
So until the right people come along, love fiercely, for your love has the ability to change lives, including your own.
