When You Lose Your Best Friend

It is not always the end.

When you lose your best friend, the world feels like it has turned upside down.

When you lose your best friend, nothing in the world seems right anymore.

When you lose your best friend, you lose the one person in your life that you could trust with anything.

Everything you do reminds you of something that the two of you did on your adventures gallivanting around the world together. Every smell or taste you experience makes you think of the last time you experienced it with them. They were your everything.

But, now, they are your memories.

You can stare at the text messages that were once sent, and you can stare at the trinkets that were shared between friends. And nothing will ever be the same as those items.

You can think about what they are doing without you, and you can think about how they feel now that your friendship has come to an end.

You can choose to move on, or you can choose to sit and wallow in the hole that has been created in your heart.

There is pain everywhere you look because you know you have lost the one person that you would go to when you had previously felt these emotions.

And it will be difficult to move on.

You will find friends that you think could be the one, but then they will disappoint you in a way your ex-best friend never would.

You will create new memories to replace the ones that you created with them, but they will never be as good as the original ones.

You will try so hard to deny everything that you felt in your time of grieving because every single reason for the fall was obviously your fault, but you’re the only one to see it that way.

And that will make you grieve harder.

There will never be a right way to move on or to recover from the pain that you have felt.

There will never be a right way to deal with your ex-best friend when you two meet paths again.

There will never be a right way to do anything ever again.

But there will be a day when you do move on.

The grieving will stop, and the new memories created will block out the old ones.

Friends are never short to come by, but sometimes you just have to know when the end is the end.

Just like in romantic relationships, you have a soulmate that is your friend for life.

Sometimes the two are the same, and sometimes, the two are the most important people that you have to balance within your life.

“The definition of a best friend is a person who you value above other friends in your life, someone you have fun with, someone you trust and someone in whom you confide,” according to YourDictionary.
