I can't even begin to count the amount of times that I've been mistaken for a child. I do recognize that I have a very young face, and my height probably contributes to people thinking that I'm much younger than I actually am, but sometimes it's just a tad annoying.
A few days ago, I went out to eat with my family and the host at the restaurant handed me a kids' menu. Not that I don't enjoy the food on the kids' menu, but I noticed that it read "Available for Guests 11 and under." I'm 19.
This happens everywhere. I have so many stories about people asking my age or commenting on my "baby face." Every time I've flown home for a break, a TSA employee will ask me where my mom is, to which I respond with my age and a red, embarrassed face. They're usually very shocked and say that I look "so young."
It has even happened on campus. I was sat working on an assignment in a study area and a group of ladies came over and asked me how old I was, because they thought I looked "very young."
Even though it's annoying, embarrassing and a little bit funny to be on the receiving end of those comments, there are some pluses to looking younger than I am. I get called "cute" often, because I'm petite, which I choose to take as a compliment, and I am able to move through crowds easily. I'll definitely be appreciating those comments more in 10 years.
