When You Give A Big A Little

My future brides made, my best friend, and one of my biggest blessings.

When You Give A Big A Little
Avery Manifold

You're one of the best things that have come out of being in a sorority. You're my best friend, my biggest support system, and someone I know I can always come to.

When I knew it was time to get a little, I worked my butt off. There were so many requirements and I was going to do everything it took to reach those expectations. No matter the grade requirements, no matter the money, no matter the attendance requirements, I was there. I went above and beyond what was expected of me because I wanted a little.

The idea of having a little is great. I thought about all the pictures we'd take and all the crafts I'd make you. I even made a Pinterest board of poses, painted canvas', and pick-me-up's I could send you. It's the idea of having a little that drove me to work harder. Little did I know that you'd have such a big impact in my life.

The moment we met at recruitment, you made me want to be a big even more. We had a million different intersections between our personalities, especially since we were both nervous burping the whole time. I never thought I'd meet another person that was that much like me. When bid day came around, I was on my toes waiting for you to choose us, and YOU DID. I made it a priority to talk to you that day because I knew that first impressions mattered. I was so worried you weren't going to think we had such a good sisterly connection as I did. I can't tell you how many times I told my friends and parents how great you were and that I wanted you as my little. I shouldn't have worried so much.

Every time you came around the circle for big and little mixers, it was so hard not to keep a smile on my face. I held my tongue so many times when I felt like I needed to tell you that I wanted you as my little. When the night of reveal came along, I was the most stressed out I'd been since I chose our sorority. I made certain that my box was the best it could be. I probably changed my outfit 10 times to make sure it was going to be up to par with all the pictures we were going to take. All I could hear was my heartbeat and I was sweating so bad. When I looked up and saw you, I couldn't have been happier.

We click so easily. You understand everything about me and you never hold anything against me. You're always making me laugh with your funny jokes and you're always there to give me the best advice you can. You're always a text or a phone call away and I know I can rely on you with whatever life throws at me. I always look forward to our time together and I can't wait to see what memories we make in the future.

I will always try to be the best big I can be. I will never leave you alone to do something you cannot handle. I promise to always be here for you when you need a ride home after a late night. I promise to always support you and have your back, even if I don't agree with you. I promise to always stand up for you if someone says anything bad about you. I promise to help guide you through your membership in our organization to show you the person and sister you can become. I promise to always strive to be the big sister you've always wanted.

Thank you for being my best friend and for always having my back. Thank you for making me laugh and listening to me vent when I'm crying or stressing out. Thank you for always being up for a crazy adventure with me or even a lame one. Thank you for being my chauffeur for a few hours when my car isn't working. Thank you for pushing me to be better in school and in our sorority. Thank you for being the little I've always wanted.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
