Sorry, Netflix subscribers—as The Batman is a Warner Bros. release, it will come to the WarnerMedia streaming service, HBO Max.
NEWSWEEK SUBSCRIPTION OFFERS >The film will be available on that service in all the territories where HBO Max is currently available. A full list is on the HBO Max website, but it includes multiple countries in Latin America and Europe including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Mexico, Spain, as well as the U.S.
Where it streams in other countries will vary. In the U.K. for example, it is expected on Now Cinema due to its existing deal with Warner. In Canada, meanwhile, Crave seems like the most likely streaming destination for the movie.
When Will 'The Batman' Stream?
The streaming release date for the movie is less certain, though there is some information that can help us work out a rough release date.
In 2021, Warner announced that all of its movies would come to HBO Max at the same time that they went to cinemas, which meant that films like Dune, The Matrix Resurrections and The Suicide Squad went straight to streaming.
After many box office watchers cited this to be a reason why several Warner movies underperformed in theaters, the company decided to change its release strategy for 2022. That means that The Batman will not be coming to HBO Max right away.
This year, Warner Bros has made a deal with Regal Cinemas owner Cineworld that means that films will play in theaters exclusively for 45 days.
What does this mean for the streaming release date of The Batman? It means that it will be at least 45 days before The Batman comes to HBO Max. This means that the earliest that the film will be available to watch online will be April 17, 2021.
In October, HBO Max confirmed that Warner Bros films will be streaming on their service after 45 days, at least in Europe. In a statement, HBO Max EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) general manager Christina Sulebakk said: "I have another amazing piece of news to drop. For the first time, in the Nordics at launch, and next year in Spain, Portugal and central and eastern Europe, HBO Max will make Warner Bros films available on the platform just 45 days after their theatrical release."
HBO Max is currently available in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain and Andorra, which means those territories (and likely others in North and South America) will get the film in mid-April. The streamer is also set to expand to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia in 2022, meaning those territories will also soon be able to watch The Batman online on HBO Max.
