It's after Halloween, and so the most common question being asked is when is the right time to start playing Christmas music? I've heard it on the radio, on talk shows, and even between classmates. Each person has their own very strong opinion. Here are the different levels of people who listen to Christmas music.

1. The Hater

This person does not want to hear Christmas music at all- especially in the month of November. MAYBE they will allow it on Christmas eve and Christmas day, but never before or after.

2. The Decemberist

They consider the best time to start listening to this genre of music to be on December 1st. Maybe they think that they will get sick of it if they start listening any sooner. Most likely they want to keep Christmas music special and only want it to be played during the 25 days leading up to Christmas.

3. The Holiday Appreciator

Why wait until December when you can start listening to Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving?? Thanksgiving is the last holiday before Christmas, so this must be the perfect time to start listening to Christmas music, or so that is what this person thinks. They want each holiday to have their own day to shine. They think that if you start playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving, then the Thanksgiving holiday could be overlooked.

4. The Loyalist

Then there is the person who declares November 1st as the perfect day to start listening to Christmas music. Right after Halloween, after you have heard the monster mash 100 times in a row, they go directly to the cheerful and lovey music of the Christmas season. This person adores the Christmas spirit and wants to make the most of it while also trying to be a little conservative about when they start playing the tunes of a holiday that is two months away.

5. The True Believer

Finally, we have the person who puts us all to shame (or annoys the heck out of us). They think that there is never a bad time to listen to Christmas music. They have decided that it should be normal to listen to it year round. You might get into their car in May and they could be blasting one of the many versions of Jingle Bell Rock. You know this person and you love them for their uniqueness but you are also annoyed when they insist on playing a genre of music when it is boiling hot.

So, which one are you?

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
