From natural disasters to protests, crimes, and attacks, it seems as though every time I turn on the news it's consumed with negativity. It's safe to say that all of this and then some is more than an every day occurrence. I find myself wondering why these things happened and if peace will ever triumph over evil.
In the United States, we are fortunate to live in a country where we have the freedom and safety from government and the unjust. When terror strikes, I believe we can either be afraid and give into it, or we can change our mindset and allow it to bring about a new light in our lives.
When there is terror in the world, look to God.
When there is terror in the world, hug your loved ones a little tighter.
When there is terror in the world, don't take for granted how blessed you are.
When there is terror in the world, pray not only for the innocent people but especially for those holding the weapons.
When there is terror in the world, thank our military for their sacrifices and for risking their lives to keep you safe.
When there is terror in the world, don't let it consume you and stay informed.
When there is terror in the world, think before you speak.
When there is terror in the world, don't think you can't do anything to help.
When there is terror in the world, ask questions and talk about it.
When there is terror in the world, wake up and decide to live your life to the fullest because there are some who didn't receive that opportunity today.
So next time you turn on your TV or radio, listen and understand that we can't change the shattered past or predict the blurry future. But we do, however, have the power to control something: Our attitudes and choices. Keep tuning into what is happening around the world. Participate in elections, and do your part as a citizen. Most importantly, keep in mind that peace is not the absence of conflict but the ability to cope with it.
