In the Superbowl LII, the Philadelphia Eagles did the impossible: they beat the New England Patriots. The Eagles were not favored to win, yet through a very close game, with some very tough plays, they managed to beat one of the best teams in the NFL. Immediately after the game ended the fans in Philadelphia flooded the streets signing the fight song, started setting off fireworks, and just rejoiced the fact that their team did it. They had won the Superbowl for the very first time, and against the Patriots for that matter. And when the Eagles won, the fans definitely felt that they won as well.
I am not typically a football fan I will admit, but feeling the excitement from my friends and family back home about how well our home team was doing this past season got me pumped for the Superbowl. Watching the game was nerve-wracking and there was a shouting match with some of my friends who were rooting for the Patriots, but it was energizing all the same.
The feeling of seeing your home team win when they are not the favorite is unbelievable. We were the underdogs, yet the fans still had hope that the Eagles would win the whole time. We were not projected to even be in the Superbowl, to begin with, but we fought hard to get there and eventually won the Superbowl. And when the clock ran out and when everyone watching realized that Philly had won, the whole city went crazy.
The fans of Philly had been waiting for years for this win, the one where our football team finally won the Superbowl. In the words of my dad, he's "waited fifty years for this moment!", so when the city went crazy, it was out of pride and excitement. We've never had a win like this before for our team, one of such importance and great adversity that the team had to overcome. The moment the Superbowl ended, it felt like we were on top of the world, which we were. It was a brilliant moment, one that the Eagles had to fight their way to earn, which made it even more brilliant. And as the fans that were watching alongside our team, cheering and encouraging them on, we were right there with them with that win.
