Silence is a powerful thing. Sometimes, a season of silence is a pause from the typically chaotic, always moving world. However, we tend to take these times for granted by filling it with unneeded stress or problems. We turn silence into something it is unintended to be. Silence can be a safe haven, but also a feared place. We are told that silence builds strength and is a time for self-discovery, although we can often come out of silence feeling so weak and even more uncertain about who we were before.
Silence can lead us into a place of bitterness. When we spend time in silence our minds soar into a plethora of different and abstract thoughts. Silence tends to distort our thoughts. For instance, in silence our biggest hopes can turn into our deepest fears, our dreams into nightmares, our love into hate, our hate into resentment. The list continues on and on. Silence can become a place of fear just as easily as it can become a place of peace.
Silence is often used as a mask. Silence is something to hide behind. Silence is the world's loudest scream for help. We, as humans, have this preconceived notion that if we keep our mouths closed, others will speak for us or on our behalf. Fortunately, your silence does speak; it speaks very loudly. It speaks volumes. John Grossman said,"Silence is not the absence of the something, but the presence of everything." What he said was so truthful because silence showcases the lack of confidence you have in yourself, your motives, your desires, your thoughts, your beliefs and your dreams. Silence speaks loud when our words can't or when we are too frightened to. Our fears, our thoughts, our doubts, our pain, and our secrets are consumed by our silence. Silence numbs us. Silence numbs our capacity to think or believe for ourselves.
Our voice is often terminated and disguised by the idea that we are unable or we are too inadequate to speak or have our own opinion or beliefs. Society tells us so easily that what we have to say is not worth saying. Or whatever we have to say is wrong or invalid. Which is so far from the truth. You have a voice, a powerful one. In fact, we all have a powerful voice. A voice that needs to be and should be used. We all have the ability to speak, even when society tells us silence is the better option. Society conforms us into believing that silence is the answer even when it causes darkness to invade our minds. We all have the power to speak light into the darkness put in front of us. We all have a voice that is worth listening to, we just need to use our voice and speak.
