When Plans Change

Thy Will be Done.

When Plans Change
Family of Faith

Many times in life, we decided to create our own path to our own happiness. We get so caught up in our own plans, setting our goals and creating our future that we forget who is really in charge. Something is always bound to happen to stop us in our tracks and force us back to the path that has been chosen for us by Him.

You’re upset, frustrated, maybe even infuriated. How could you get so lost in your own plans to forget that God’s plans conquer yours? That His are better, even when it doesn’t seem possible? This is a very humbling experience that I’m sure everyone runs into at some point. For me, it happens more often than not. In fact, it’s happening to me now. But as I type this, all I can hear ringing through my head over and over is, “Thy will be done,” four small words that hold such a great meaning.

Thy will be done.

I’ve recited it many times as a child in church while saying the Lord’s Prayer.

Thy will be done.

I’ve heard it sung loudly at my new church home at school, proclaimed over and over.

Thy will be done.

But, of course I am not perfect. I am a perfectionist, however, and I organize every aspect of my life to ease my anxiety. I have three calendars that I keep updated; I am constantly checking my planner to make sure I have everything in order, and always setting goals and planning ahead for my future. It’s easy to get lost in my world of planning everything out, it’s too easy for me to forget who is in charge. But,

Thy will be done.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much I plan and organize. The future is set, and it’s been planned by the greatest leader ever, the only one who I would trust with planning every detail of my life, God. Once I come to understand this (time after time), it’s such a relaxing thought. There is no need to stress over every detail in life, because when it all fails and nothing goes our way, we can bathe in the pure joy and comfort of knowing that our lives are in the hands of the creator, whose plans are much better and greater than our own.

One verse that always brings me this comfort is Jeremiah 29:11; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

In conclusion, just remember, He is in control. His plans will not harm you. He will give you the future you hope for, and so much more that you cannot even imagine or plan for yourself. Your plans may seem perfect, but His are far superior. This is something we can all truly be joyful about!

How amazing is it that we have God planning our lives, prospering us and caring for us. I couldn’t ask for a better caretaker than that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
