There are a lot of times when life gives you a reason not to be positive, or see the glass half full instead of half empty. Life can throw curve balls at you. It can whisk you through whirlwinds of sadness, pain, doubt, anxiety, and a whole lot of other things. It is easy to give into these harsh feelings. However, looking at the bright side of things has always helped me. Maybe the situation you are in or the emotions you feel aren't as bad as you think. Maybe there is a simpler way out, or another way to look at it. These are the thoughts you must keep in mind. It is hard to be positive when life may throw these feelings at you, but sometimes looking up is the best way to go.

"When nothing goes right, go left" is a quote I've always carried with me. There's always a way to stay positive and keep in mind that there is a brighter side; there is a silver lining. You may not see it. I have been in situations where I haven't been able to see the brighter side of things, as hard as I have looked. I tried and tried, I looked left and right. With time, I have learned that things do get better whether you believe they will or not.

Time heals all. Take a broken heart. When it breaks, you don't think you will ever be able to put the pieces back together, but then with time, you find someone who comes along with the right kind of glue. This person is who helps put the pieces back together, and you realize that this was your silver lining that you never thought would occur. It's difficult to sit back and think "okay, this will get better, don't worry" because our natural instinct is to worry when something goes wrong. It's completely normal, but it helps to be able to imagine the better side of whatever the situation may be. Growing up, there have been so many battles I've faced. I've helped other people face them as well. No matter what though, I tell myself to see the glass half full. Going through life with this attitude has saved me from becoming sad, or filled with anxiety or something that may be out of my control.

Surrounding yourself with positive people is always beneficial. A good support group will help you through things you may not think you can face alone. It may be parents, teachers, friends, grandparents, or your boyfriend/girlfriend. All these people play a significant role in your life, and are very important to have. If you surround yourself with negativity, then you have a lesser chance of seeing the glass half full instead of half empty.

Whether you're going through a rough patch in your life, bad grades, relationship issues, friendship problems, or something else, trying to find that silver lining could really save you. Always remember, when nothing goes right, go left.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
