My mom visited me this weekend and since she was only here for two days, we were determined to do as much as we possibly could in our short time frame together. This was only her second time here so as you can imagine, we had a lot to do.
Side note: my aunt is also pictured!
1. Take her to the farmer's market
The farmer's market is a short walk from campus and is an easy way to stock up on fruits and vegetables. Despite containing fresh produce, it also has paintings, and other works of art sold directly by the artist. it is definitely something worth going to.
2. Take her to where you work
I work at a restaurant on King street and it's probably my favorite job I've ever had so I just had to bring my mom to experience it! The food is super fresh and the people are all so nice so I knew she would love it.
3. Walk King Street
King Street is always a must while you're in Charleston, even if you're not in the mood for shopping. It can be so fun to window shop and observe all the stores while getting your steps in!
4. Go to the Christmas Sweater Emporium
The Christmas sweater emporium located on King Street is full of Christmas spirit, year round. Though we did not buy anything here, it was fun to see all the unique (and some ugly) sweaters.
5. Show her around campus
Being voted the most beautiful campus in 2017 by "Travel and Leisure," touring campus was a must. I showed her around cougar mall and we just had to get a picture with Clyde.
6. Go to the bookstore to buy some cougar gear!
Being able to rep your cougar pride is extremely important so we stopped at the bookstore to stock up on some nice CofC t-shirts. Now she has a souvenir to take back to Maryland.
7. Treat yourself to dessert
The cakes pictured above are from my new favorite dessert place: Carmella's. This is a go for anyone downtown. Between the three of us, there was much left over from these two cakes. Who doesn't love leftovers!
8. Walk to the pineapple fountain
For those of you who don't know, the pineapple symbolizes hospitality and can be spotted in several forms all over Charleston. The pineapple fountain is located in the waterfront park and is absolutely beautiful. It's one of my favorite places to go to.
My mom, aunt, and I had a wonderful weekend exploring downtown! My mom loves Charleston almost as much as I do. It's fair to assume that she'll be back very soon.
