Modern Family is just one of those shows everyone relates to. You're bound to find someone that you resemble, and if you say that you don't, then you're just lying to yourself. Whether you're a geek, the pretty/dumb girl, the guy who thinks he's funny, gay, there is someone on this show for you. Modern Family shows three different households that when blended together make for a very interesting, dysfunctional, but loving family. It kind of reminds you of your friend group doesn't it? Your group has different personalities that when mushed together turn out to be the best group of friends ever, and why might you ask? Because each person in your group plays a vital role in keeping the group laughing, entertained, and peaceful. Here is how Modern Family perfectly describes your friend group.

The Lily's (AKA: The Know-It-All)

Lily is the most sarcastic, witty, know-it-all of the century. Of course, your friend group wouldn't be complete without her, but at the same time once she arrives, everyone starts looking forward to when she leaves. She doesn't mean her comments rudely: Most of the time, but anytime someone says something The Lily of the group will definitely make sure their two-sense is added in.

The Haley's (AKA: The Flirt/the one with a questionable IQ level)

Every group has a Haley. When I used to cheer we refereed to this person as the "brown-crayon," it's essentially the blonde friend. The Haley's are usually the last one to be told the plans because it limits the amount of times you have to re-explain what you're doing. Although they are the last ones to be clued in, they are ALWAYS invited. The Haley's keep the night fun and are the most outgoing of the group. They are always wearing the latest fashion items, and most of the time the most revealing. Overall, the Haley's always get the guy (even if she's dressed in sweats), are slightly slower than the rest of your friends, but ultimately they keep your group fun.

Without a doubt, this was most likely your college pep talk to your Haley.

The Manny's (AKA: The Hopeful Romantics)

The Manny is your friend who adores Nicholas Sparks. They are the hopeful romantics. They appreciate sweet gestures, and gifts from the heart. Spending a lot of money really doesn't impress them as much as the thought behind the action does. Unfortunately, they are usually single; maybe the expectations are a little too high? Even so, whenever you need relationship advice they are your go-to friend.

The Mitch/Cam (AKA: Your gay friend)

After the Haley's of the group, The Mitch/Cam's are the most fun ones. Your gay friend is always energetic and ready to have a good time. They are always making everyone laugh, and life without them wouldn't be the same.

The Alex (AKA: Your Smart Friend)

Outsiders would consider the Alex of your group a nerd, but you all know that you probably would have round up in jail if it wasn't for her. Out of all your friends she probably went to the most prestige college, and already has her future planned out to a tee.

The Jay's (AKA: The friend who is never without their partner)

The Jay of your group is proud of their significant other; and rightfully so. Their partner is usually glued to their hip, and if you invite Jay to the mall, just be prepared that their Gloria will most likely be there too. If they ever broke up your friend group would be lost as Jay's Gloria is now an elite member of your group. Jay is probably a little full of himself, but that's what makes him Jay. He's also probably your richest friend, so asking if the cost of your condo for Spring Break is okay, is really not needed.

The Phil/Luke's (AKA: The Questionable Friend)

Even though Haley's IQ is questioned on a daily basis, Phil/Luke's IQ is even worse. The Phil/Luke of your group is very light hearted, and turns everything into a joke. He is definitely not the friend you go to for advice. Phil/Luke is usually at all of your outgoings, but when he's not, it's not a big deal... Sorry to all the Phil and Luke's of the world.

The Gloria's (AKA: The Foreign Friend)

Gloria... Where do I begin? She's your foreign friend who messes up their English from time to time. Okay, a lot of the time. She's also the friend who dozes off when she's suppose to be listening to you, and when you're done ranting she just pretends to have never heard/understood you.

The Claire's (AKA: The Structured Friend)

Some might say the Claire of your group is a little too up-tight. She is very structured and was probably the one to plan your outings. She is certainly not spontaneous, and likes schedules. On a night on the town she quickly becomes the mom to everyone. Being the mom of the group isn't necessarily a bad thing, besides, who else would make sure that everyone made it home from the bars safely?

Modern Family has every dynamic of a friend in your group, and hopefully your group has a Claire, Gloria, Mitch, Jay, Cam, Haley, Alex, Luke, Phil, and Manny. Each person in your friend group is essential, and without one member, your group just wouldn't be the same. Which friend are you?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
