When it comes down to it, both candidates were not good options. Say what you want, but neither of them were kind, and neither of them had clean records. They are humans. We are humans—at times we haven’t been kind, and I don’t think we would want our own records on display for the world. America, I am ashamed of the fact that all we can do right now is say that we feel sorry for ourselves when we still live in a country where we are able to have so much freedom because other people have fought for us to have it.
We picked between a rock and a hard place, and whichever one you say is which, it was not an easy decision. Trump won fair and square. So many people went out to vote in the election because it was huge. Hillary did not lose because she is a woman, or because white supremacists were the “only ones who” voted. When it comes down to it, people voted for Hillary either because they liked her or were scared of Trump. People voted for Trump either because they liked him or were scared of Hillary. America is acting out of fear, with either result, and I am ashamed of our pity on ourselves when there is so much actual tragedy happening in the world around us. Trump won by a lot, in the end, so there is no question about who our next president is, or what the vote was from the people of the country.
As Christians, instead of saying, “Jesus come back now,” or “I am terrified,” or “RIP America,” why don’t you take a second and pray for Mr. Trump, the new face of this nation, and his family? Why don’t you take a moment and give your time to causes that are actual tragedies instead of rant-posting on Facebook? Why don’t you take a moment and pray for Hillary and her family? Why don’t you pray for the nation? Why don’t you be encouraging to people around you and help bring joy to others instead of moping? You are called to something far greater than what you are grasping for.
Find your hope in the Lord. It should have never been in the election results in the first place. Learn to see people as people—including the ones who have power. Everyone is always going through something truly difficult—pray. You are doing no one any good by moping about what cannot and will not be changed.
