You know what my favorite time of the day is? Nap time. Although I do enjoy any time that involves food, nap time has become a favorite pastime of mine since my last couple years of high school and even now as I finish college. But what are naps? No, not the Naval Academy Preparatory School. Naps as in when it comes to sleeping.

Naps are a short periods of sleep between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Most people take them if they feel drowsy during the day. When most of us were younger, whenever we were in kindergarten, pre-school, or day care, we would loathe nap time. Most toddlers had a ton of energy during those times of the day and would just crash or not crash when it was bed time.

My main point is to tell you why naps are good for you. In most workplaces napping is frowned upon, but naps are extremely important — especially if you're a college student. Here are some reasons why naps are good for you, brought to you by The Art of Manliness article, "Unleash the Power of the Nap" by Brett and Kate McKay.

1. It increases alertness

It's no secret that if I don't take a nap, I'm usually not as alert as I want to be, especially since I do a lot of activities outside of the classroom. When I take an hour nap, I feel more alert and I'm able to get more things done.

2. Improves learning and working memory

Like most college students, although I probably can't speak for everyone, we wait until the last minute to study for an exam or finish an essay/paper that is usually due the next day. For me, when I take a nap, and I had studied or looked over those notes before hand, I am able to remember things a lot easier due to the fact my brain remembers what I saw before I took the nap.

3. Improves your health

According to the article, when you sleep you release growth hormones. "These boost your immune system, primes your sexual function, reduces stress and anxiety, and aids in muscle repair and weight loss." In other words, your body will appreciate the fact that you get a rest, even if it's for a few minutes, it gives it time to recharge and you back into your routine.

4. Improves your mood

Personally, if I don't take a nap — especially if I'm really exhausted — I get very cranky. Or as my friends would say, extremely sassy. You aren't yourself when you're cranky, anxious, and overwhelmed; so when in doubt, take a nap.

5. It's awesome!

I'm a little biased since I take naps whenever I can, but honestly when I take a nap, I feel a lot better and I can get more done because of the said nap.

So do yourself a favor and take a nap! It's good for you!

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
