Sorority Recruitment season can be stressful, regardless of which side you are on. Your days are jam-packed, and you have to make sure your exterior is completely flawless amidst starting your new classes. It's my personal philosophy that everything in life can be hacked to make your life easier!
First and foremost, your Netflix, HBO Go, or Hulu subscription is going to need to be up to date, because after these long days surrounded by people, you're going to be desperate for some "me" time. Consider buying one of these to make this sacred alone time even more pleasurable.
In case you're wondering, that thing is called a Moody Couch, and I've seriously looked into buying one. But let's discuss some slightly more attainable things.
Most likely, you'll be wearing heels all day long for at least one or more days. If your shoes are scrappy, binding, or if you have even the slightest suspicion that your heels may rub you the wrong way, then you are going to want to invest in some shoe wax. Sounds weird, but it works! If you rub it on the parts or straps where your shoe hits you, it will keep those parts of the shoe from digging into your skin. Shoe wax can be purchased from shops that specialize in orthopedics; you know, the ones that your grandma goes to, like The Walking Company.
Powerful females in the business world also swear by this trick to keep their feet pain free during days of wearing high heels hours on end: soaking your feet in ice cold water and then rubbing them with lotion. If you can manage to do this in the morning before getting ready, and once at a lunch break, then you should be able to wear all day with ease! Other high heel experts say taping together your 3rd and 4th toes with clear medical tape (provided you are not wearing peptones!) can help distribute balance for the balls of your feet, and help ease the pain.
Of course, there is always the age old option of Dr. Scholls' insoles, which work great, if your sleek stilettos can fit them. If you need to stretch them out just a tad so those insoles can fit, put on thick pairs of socks, put your shoes on, and hit the power button on your hair dryer; that should stretch them out a bit! I was basically born in heels, so trust me on this one.
You could spend lots and lots of money on makeup setting spray, or fancy primers, and those are all great, but you're already spending money on your outfits, hair, and other beauty products! Translucent powder can go a long way! To make your lipstick last longer, after your lipstick application, place a tissue over your lips and then dust the powder over the tissue. This will save you time and money due to reduced lipstick applications! To keep the lipstick on your lips, and not your teeth, place your finger (after washing your hands of course) inside your lips and close your mouth and then remove your finger. This will get rid of any extra lipstick and keep it off your teeth. If you are prone to getting shininess on your nose and cheeks, use oil blotting sheets! Keep the shine where it belongs using highlighter. I recommend High Beam by Benefit--after you've gone to the Benefit Brow Bar to get those brows on fleek.
If you need energy, which you WILL for recruitment, or at least want to look like you have energy, fear not! Using white eyeshadow as a base before your regular shadow, liner, and highlighter can wake up your face. You can also do so by placing used tea bags or coffee grounds underneath your eyes to prevent bags, which is a great hack if you have been staying up late! You are going to need to keep yourself stocked with all of your normal energy supplies. It is importantt that you do not under-caffeinate or over-caffeinate either! Pre-set your coffee in its Keurig, or filter, or machine with the correct amount of water the night before, so all you'll have to do in the morning is turn it on. It has been statistically proven that the best time to drink coffee, or other energy boosting beverages, is 9 a.m. or in the late afternoon, so plan your Starbucks runs accordingly!
