You can think about the tequila or non-alcoholic margaritas you will be drinking May 5th on Cinco de Mayo. You can get your mother a beautiful bouquet of roses on May 10th. You can head to the beach with a picnic basket ready to come home late during Memorial day weekend and July 4th weekend.
If you can't even think about the sun or even the beach, you can at least think about baseball which will have opening day April 6th. This season Major League Baseball will be incorporating a series of play-tracking cameras and sensors in all 20 ballparks, opening up the game to a whole new set of analytics by capturing metrics like bat speed, a player's reaction time, and distance covered to make a catch. The College World Series takes place from June 13th or June 24th and the NCAA will be switching from raised-seem baseballs to flat-seam baseballs which travel twenty feet farther so there will be more home runs.
Also, Toyota will be coming out with its first fuel-cell car, FCV, with the promise of a charge that lasts for 310 miles. Verizon will be launching its mobile TV service with a la carte channel selection (aka the only way to really offer channels).
The Canalway Calvacade occurs from May 2nd to May 4th. The pretty waterways of Little Venice will be even more colorful than usual for this annual bank holiday weekend gathering of canal boats which has been going since 1983. Around 130 boats in fancy dress will be moored along the stretch of the Grand Union Canal between Blomfield Road, Warwick Avenue and Warwick Crescent and there will be lots of very British fun including morris dancers and a real ale tent.
The World Naked Bike Ride occurs every June. What could be better than biking around London in the buff? A lot of things probably, but try telling that to the hundreds who go skin-to-saddle each year. If you fancy a laugh, watch the ride at a particularly potholed section of the route.
