Have you ever had something great in your life that was taken away in one way or another? Odds are you have, and I have too. This often leaves us feeling angry, sad, and confused as we question God’s plan for our lives. But if we take a step back and remind ourselves that our God doesn’t cause us harm, but instead, has our very best interest at heart, it becomes a bit clearer as to why He would take away something that we thought was so wonderful.
Let’s think of it this way:
Imagine a parent sees their toddler playing with a knife that fell on the floor. Although their child might be having fun with her new-found toy, the parent would have to take the knife away. Why? Because the child doesn’t understand the danger at hand (no pun intended). Even though this will most likely make her cry, the parent must do what’s in her best interest.
In the same way, God, being our Heavenly Father, must take away the things in our lives that are going to cause us harm. Just like the toddler, we may not see the danger now, but we have to trust that God sees the bigger picture and is orchestrating our lives accordingly for our greatest good.
Believe me when I say I understand the hurt. I’ve been there: curled up on the floor, crying until the tears dry up. But guess what? God has protected us! The temporary pain of this loss is nothing in comparison to the pain of that knife cutting our hand open. Something we saw as so great, so exciting, and maybe even sent by God, turns around and causes us to bleed (emotionally speaking, of course).
Perhaps we’re left with a few scrapes - that’s nothing a little bit of time can’t heal. But imagine how much more it would hurt and affect us if it broke through our skin. One hospital visit, five bandages, and ten stitches later, you’re on the road to recovery. But thanks to our loving, caring, & compassionate Father, we get to skip all those extra hurdles and move that much closer to the life He has for us. A life filled with joy, hope, peace, and meaning. A life that reflects God’s love. A life far beyond your wildest dreams
