So many times in our life God doesn't give us that thing we were really wanting. That thing we were sure was going to happen. That thing that made us the happiest and that thing that seemed to just be going perfectly. But God doesn't end up giving us that thing. We naturally turn to anger and confusion with the Lord and what He wants for us. A time of considering the what-ifs and wondering what you did wrong when it isn't something you had control over in the first place! Why did God close that door?
The funny thing is, is that when God closes a door, He is just opening another window. God doesn't tell us "no;" He just says, "haha just kidding," because God has a sense of humor too.
I've really learned this recently in my life because I have had to make quite a few important decisions. These decisions would make a difference in my future and definitely needed to be prayerfully considered. I prayed about each of them and thought I was making the right decision and following God's call. That was until God said to me, "Haha just kidding!" and turned me into the total opposite direction.
Sometimes you get into friendships or relationships and you make every move very carefully. You keep Christ part of it, going about everything in prayer and being sure that you are doing everything in the best way. You do everything "right." But still, God says, "Haha just kidding" and makes it not work for some crazy reason.
It's in these moments that we feel stuck in quicksand, sinking into a pit of chaos and confusion where we get upset with God. But something to always remember is that for whatever you have planned, God has something even better. He is and always will be extremely sovereign in that. God is sitting there telling you, Oh child, I am God. I know exactly what I am doing even if you do not think so. I am going to do more for you than you could ever imagine. I am in control even though it may be difficult for you. Trust me that something better is coming.
My hope is that we can start to find peace in this very truth. That when bad things happen to us, that we are reminded of God's dominance over it all. That we see if we keep our focus on God, that we will see what He has been working on all along. I think this is something hard to see while you're sitting in the situation, but I challenge you to not be so quick to anger and instead acknowledge God's perfect plan that He has handpicked just for you because you are special to Him and He knows what is best for you.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
