The camera is an invention that has revolutionized the world and our modern day culture. Photographs make it possible to capture and keep a moment in time.
We carry high quality digital cameras with us in our pockets every day. Almost all modern smart phones are equipped with cameras. At any moment we are able to capture a photograph as easily as tapping the phone screen.
Whenever I go to a beach, to a garden, or to a park, instead of seeing people’s faces I see people’s heads blocked by phones taking pictures. We, as a society, are constantly photographing everything. Photography can be seen as a career, a hobby, or anything in between.
I know many people who are experienced with photography that are opposed to calling just anyone with a camera a photographer. However, I believe that photography is like any other art form. Each piece is different and its own new addition to the art in the world. Like with painters, there will be counterfeiters, people who may not work in the same style as you, and some people who stick out among the rest. I think we, as an art community and society, should welcome newcomers with open arms.
