Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi wants to be arranged, believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself. The Shahs and Patels didn’t mean to start turning the wheels on this “suggested arrangement” so early in their children’s lives, but when they noticed them both gravitate toward the same summer program, they figured, Why not? Dimple and Rishi may think they have each other figured out. But when opposites clash, love works hard to prove itself in the most unexpected ways.
Goodreads Rating: 3.97
When Dimple Met Rishi is such a good book to read for the summer. It has fun and cute romance with lots of fluff, a typical book for your summer light reading.
This book had become one of my most anticipated release since the first time I read its synopsis. I also had a feeling that it can be an entertaining diverse read, we all need to read some diverse book every now and then.
Dimple, the main character, is a passionate girl. She knows her goals and dreams, and she is determined to make it happen. The problem is that her traditional parents, especially her mother, doesn't understand her passion. Instead they keep suggesting her to find an IIH - Ideal Indian Husband - when Dimple wants nothing more than build a career.
Rishi, on the other hand, loves his tradition to the bone and has his whole life planned out including building a family of his own. He believes that everything has to be done in the exact ways. He is even ready to say goodbye to his passion, which is art.
Dimple and Rishi is very different from each other. It was interesting to see how they managed to finally become friends, or maybe even more.
I have to admit that I have had high expectations for this book. But sadly, the story didn't go the way as I wanted it to be. There were also many plot holes in the story, some scenes just appear out of nowhere and has little effect to the story's development. On the other hand, there were some important scenes that will play an interesting part to the plot in my opinion, but didn't get explored the way they should be.
I love to read about the India culture in this book. But sadly, there were so little translation when they were saying some Hindi language. I actually have to translate some sentences to understand what they were saying. But those are just some minor conversation. If you were too lazy to translate the sentences, it's okay. You will get the picture anyway.
All and all, if you want to read this novel then you should just pick it up. As I were saying, it's a fun read for the summer. These are just my opinions of the book. Who knows? Maybe you'll love it more that I do!
