Even in the midst of the most insane and nerve-wracking presidential election, people still find a way of coming together to celebrate Veteran’s Day.

Out of all of the responses and reactions on Facebook this past week about Trump winning the presidency, it was nice to see so many people take a step back and thank those who have and/or are serving our country.

I am proud to say that my grandfather and uncles who have honorably served our country. These men now have families and continue to do amazing things for our country. My grandfather has been gone for a while, but he was a construction worker. He built homes and buildings for people to be able to live in or to grow their business. My one uncle works for the railroad, which is a dangerous job in itself. My other uncle served as a Marine and now is a State Trooper and a part of our SWAT team. Every day he protects all of us from dangerous, harmful people. To those men in my family, I love you guys and thank you for all that you have done.

Every man and woman who has served or is serving, I sincerely thank you for all that you have done and continue to do to keep our country safe.

It is beautiful to see so many people whether or not they voted for the same person or not, comment on other’s posts on Facebook to thank those family members for serving. A small act of kindness can go a long way, which I think everybody should think about every once in a while, especially now and for our future.

As a community, we need to be able to speak our opinion peacefully. We shouldn’t be killing one another by trying to do so. Buffalo is known as the “City of Good Neighbors”, yet we deal with shootings, stabbings and rapes every day. As a whole, we need to come together to find a solution to the problem. Not only just us Buffalonians, but everyone in the United States of America needs to come together and help our nation grow as a country of freedom and equality.

Freedom and equality: that is what our nation was built on. By denying access to certain races into our country is just plain wrong. By attacking other races unlike yours based on their skin color or their beliefs and values is also the wrong thing to do. Instead of trying to “fix” a problem by using violence, we need to talk things out and learn to accept one another. By accepting one another our nation will have less turmoil and more happiness and acceptance that we can pass on to our future generations.

All in all, I think I can speak for just about everybody in the United States, we all thank the strong men and women who have bravely served or are serving our country. Without them, I don’t believe our nation would be as safe as it is.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
