When An 11-Year-Old Becomes Your Best Friend

It's crazy how one little girl can impact your life so much.

I started working at a local childcare facility about two years ago, and it has been the best experience during my last few years in college. I have met many children there and each of these little ones have left an impact on me. I am forever thankful for that. There has been one little girl in particular that has changed my life so much. Her name is Madi.

Madi is an 11-year-old girl with Down Syndrome that brightens any room she walks into and will hold an extra place in your heart. I have several people that can attest to this. She is full of life and loves everyone that she meets. Madi is the type of girl that can turn your sad day around in an instant. She is always welcoming people with open arms and always has big smile on her face.

When I first met Madi she was so nice to me and always made me laugh. I eventually started hanging out with her and her sweet family outside of work with some of my coworkers and best friends, Katrina and Sara. They have known Madi for years and they were so kind to invite me in on their group hangouts with Madi and her family.

As I became close to Madi, I also grew closer to her parents, and they were the sweetest people that you could possibly meet. No wonder Madi was such a sweet girl! She got it from her parents.

As the last few years have passed by I have been fortunate enough to see Madi grow into this beautiful sweet girl that she has always been.

One of my favorite things to do with Madi is to sing some karaoke music with her. She's a big fan of the High School Musical franchise, so during the summers at work we always played this music. Madi would put on a concert for the entire class and of course everyone including the teachers joined in too.

Like I mentioned earlier, it's crazy how one little girl can change your life. She is like my best friend, and as I am approaching graduation I don't know how I am going to leave not only her but her family too. I feel like one of their own and I value their friendship so much.

I feel like everyone should meet Madi and be able to experience a once in a lifetime friendship. I always look forward to ours girl's nights and dinner dates at Fuji's! We always have a great time, and I feel like thats because of Madi. She is probably the silliest little girl I have ever met and will always keep you laughing. Not only that but she has a big heart too and you can't help but love her more.

Here's to being best friends forever and ever, Madi!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
