Are you someone who worries a lot? We all worry sometimes. We worry about big things, small things, the past, the future, other people, ourselves, and everything in between. Have you ever actually thought about what worrying does for you?

Worrying...

1. Takes the joy out of the moments you are currently experiencing

Look around. Look at the blessings you have right now. Look back on your day. Recall the great moments that were tarnished by worry. Do not allow worry to steal your joy! You deserve to be joyful. You deserve to enjoy your life.

2. Makes you physically and mentally sick

That sick feeling you have in your stomach, the way your legs shake, the way your heart pounds, and the way your mind races, those things aren't normal. They are all spiked by worry, and you don't need to deal with that.

3. Takes time away that you won't get back

Time you spend worrying is time that you cannot get back. Worrying steals your time, and adds no time onto your life. Worrying is a waste of time, a waste of good time that you can and should be enjoying!

4. Pulls you away from God

God calls us to trust Him. He tells us that we need to trust Him. He tells us that He has a great plan for us, and that He is going to take care of things for us. Not trusting Him, but worrying instead, damages our relationship with Him, when really that relationship is all that we need.

5. Recalls past events that can not be changed

There is literally nothing that you can do to change what has happened in the past. So there is absolutely no point in worrying about it. No amount of worry will change anything. Instead be proactive about working towards a better future!

6. Considers future events that may not even happen

There is no reason to worry about something that may not even happen. We don't know the future. We have no clue what will happen tomorrow, or even in 5 minutes. Things may turn out so much better than you could ever imagine, so don't spend the time you have now worrying about

"The minute you start worrying is the minute you forget how much God loves you"

Worrying has no benefit to us whatsoever. Everything we receive from worry is negative. It hurts us and is no help to us. God is going to take care of things. God takes care of the birds, think about how much more He cares for us. Lay down your worries at the Lord's feet, and allow Him to care for you how He truly desires to. I promise, it is worth it.

“This is why I tell you: do not be worried about the food and drink you need in order to stay alive, or about clothes for your body. After all, isn't life worth more than food? And isn't the body worth more than clothes? Look at the birds: they do not plant seeds, gather a harvest and put it in barns; yet your Father in heaven takes care of them! Aren't you worth much more than birds? Can any of you live a bit longer by worrying about it?" -Matthew 6:25-27

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
