"What virtue do you want more of? What challenge do you want to overcome? What are you passionate about?"
MyIntent Project wants you to ask yourself these questions.
Over break, I visited my actress cousin in LA, where she took me as her guest to a pre-Golden Globes gifting suite. Essentially, it’s where celebrities get free products from big companies to up-and-coming small artisans and vendors and learn about what these people are trying to accomplish. One of the tables there was MyIntent Project, and they were making the guests bracelets with an adjustable leather band and a metal ring that looks like a washer. On the metal ring, they hammer in a word of your choosing. My cousin chose “inspire” and I chose “passion.” We walked away with two cool-looking bracelets and a refreshed sense of self.
MyIntent is not a jewelry company. The bracelets are simply a way to bring their message to people. The creator, Chris Pan, says, "The MyIntent brand is just the enabler to prompt people to think about their intention—why they're on this earth, their purpose, how they want to grow. But it's not about us."
The purpose of these accessories is to let their message bleed into everything you do, to have the word or phrase you have chosen become your mantra. Many celebrities have joined MyIntent's cause to speak meaningfully with each other and to actually think about what kind of lives we want to lead.
Think about your word. It does not necessarily have to define you—when I was first asked, I wanted to pick something silly like "food" or "sleep." Take some time and think about what you believe you exist for. Are you a leader? An artist? A teacher? A peace-bringer? A hope-giver? Someone who will beautify the world like Kanye?
What are your aspirations, your desires and visions for life on this earth? When you lie awake at night, what crosses your mind? What do you fixate on? What do you dream? Look at the grid below and take some time from your day to answer some of these questions from MyIntent's Big Talk Board. Hopefully, this will give you clarity and help you think of your word. We all have one; find yours.
My bracelet has become a constant reminder to do what I love in life and to not let other people’s doubts influence me. Whether I'm typing, writing, texting, talking—everywhere I go, I am aware of this simple and elegant piece of jewelry that serves as a
