What's Your Favorite Holiday Tradition?

Around the holidays, everyone has their own traditions. These traditions are what make each holiday special to us and they are what keeps us excited each year. While we may do the same thing every year, the joy that these traditions bring us, never wears out. Here are a few of the Thanksgiving Day traditions that your Merrimack community loves!

"Going around the table and each person says what they are thankful for! It is so funny to hear what the little kids have to say and it's a good reminder to us of what is important!" - Ashlyn Howard

"We always have the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on in the background when we are cooking and getting ready for the day" - Katie Clark

"Going to my high school's Thanksgiving Football game. Tons of alumni are always there and it is really fun to catch up with everyone!!" - Emily Burke

"What I love about Thanksgiving is that for what may only be a day, everyone takes at least some time to reminisce and be grateful for what they have in their lives. So often we get preoccupied with everything going on around us that we constantly desire more... This is a day to appreciate everything we already have and I love that!!!" - Alison Fonseca

"Every year I love going shopping with my mom the day before Thanksgiving and then we stop for pizza after!" - Colleen Rockwell

"My favorite Thanksgiving Tradition is going to my aunt's farm! She actually raises her own turkey and farm animals and grows her own vegetables so most of the food that we eat is entirely homemade and directly from the farm." - Gianna Ferrini

"My family has a large dance competition where everyone can let loose!!" - Devon Bettencourt

"My favorite tradition is watching the Macy's Day Parade" - Maria D'Auria

"I love when we get to put up all the Christmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving!" - Chrissi DiMartino

"The night before Thanksgiving we always prep all of the food and dessert!" - Haley Mallett

"For some reason every year, we eat our meal so early that by the time it's my usual dinner time, I'm hungry again! I love the food!!!" - Angelica Medina

"What I love about Thanksgiving day is actually being able to go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC!" - Ashley LoPresti

"Every year, my favorite part about Thanksgiving is traveling to Philadelphia to visit the rest of my family" - Alexandra Wolf

"My family's favorite tradition is watching all of the football games!" - Carey Bradley

"My favorite tradition is when my family gets involved in an intense game of left, right, center, after dessert! - Alyssa Gilooly & Jenna Rutkey

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
