What's the Deal with Decorating Nalgenes?

All the cool kids are doing it.

If you don’t know what a Nalgene is then I’m guessing you probably don’t drink water, or something strange like that. Kidding. Kind of. But actually, I’ve learned that Nalgenes are practically a necessity for most college students. It’s almost like this weird cult thing where you “have to have” one. I don’t even have one. Anyways, I think it’s super cool and hip when people decorate them, at least when they’re decorated in an actual appealing way. (Please don't be one of those hoarders where you have like 5000 stickers that look super gross). It seems so trivial, but when you think about it, you can add so much personality to just a simple water bottle.

I think people should put stickers on their Nalgenes, tasteful ones at that, mainly because it is so interesting to look at. It’s a way to show people a little bit about who you are before they even say a single word to you. You have a bunch of adventurous stickers? Wow, you must like hiking. You have a bunch of summer camp stickers? You were probably a camp counselor. A bunch of random quotes? Most likely someone who thinks they’re hilarious, but there’s a good chance that they aren’t. There are literally so many things you can tell about a person just based on their Nalgene. Not to judge or anything, but admit it, it's actually true!

I know people who put a lot of thought and effort into their Nalgene stickers and I’m honestly kind of impressed. It’s a handy way to keep memories with you at all times, literally all times, considering you should always be drinking water. Anyways, you went somewhere new? You really enjoyed it? A lot of people who are Nalgene obsessed usually proceed to get a sticker in remembrance and stick it on their water bottle. I think it’s so clever, who would’ve thought? It sounds stupid, I know. But if you’re into the whole “granola type person” or “outdoors wannabe,” you most likely own an all decked out in stickers Nalgene water bottle. Hardcore stereotyping, I know.

It seems silly to emphasize such an importance upon a water bottle, and trust me it is. But this is something that people are doing, it's becoming popular—it's an up and coming trend. So if you wanted to get a taste of "what's next" in outdoor and adventuring trends, let me tell you that this is it. Just remember that your water bottle will then be a way for people to "stereotype" you, just a thought. It's fun. It's cool. It's trendy. Why not go and personalize your Nalgene? ... Maybe I should go buy one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
