The video of a teenager complimenting classmate, Daniel Lara’s, outfits in a series of Snapchat videos has gone viral.
The video features a classmate, Josh, saying “Damn Daniel!” to his friend who is seen walking outside of his school in various outfits. Later Daniel’s friend Josh adds “Damn Daniel! Back at it again with those white Vans!” After being uploaded on Twitter in a larger compiled file, the video has received millions of hits.
So why all the buzz about #DamnDaniel?
Honestly, when I first saw it, I didn’t really get it. I was looking for something to get, but that was exactly it. I was missing the point. There isn’t anything to get really. The reason why this video has people laughing like crazy is because it’s just completely random. This is just like the randomness of the “What are those” video that made that trend so viral and funny to all of us.
It’s something unexpected, it’s something unique and to see people make creative jokes out of it is the best part and the thing that makes the whole trend as funny as it is.
We know all too well the fun we have with Snapchat and especially with our friends. This was something that we saw two friends doing: joking around and doing something that was unique to them, as we all have something that’s unique with our own friends, and making the most out of Snapchat.
It’s something about the fact that the kid filmed his friend every day on Snapchat making a compilation of his outfits and saying the same thing over and over again. It’s the way he did it, the repetition and the relatability aspect that has us going crazy.
Sometimes we just need something random and funny to make our day a little better.
