Every day you have the choice of what you put your energy towards.

As we grow older, I think it is important to realize what you should and should not waste your energy on. Although they may be different for some, the main focus point is using your energy on things that make you smile, laugh, and enjoy life.

During my teen years, I definitely have wasted energy on unimportant things many times. I'm sure most of you can relate to that as well. But, what I have realized, is that I gained the knowledge of what really matters in life.

YOLO. You only live once was a popular saying around my years in middle school. I would say that people take the saying a little too far, but the gist of the saying is a true statement. You only have one chance to live your life, so you definitely want to make it enjoyable.

If things do not work out with a significant other or a friend group, you have to realize that there is more to life than focusing on your relationships with other people.

In life, you want to focus and care for your well-being before worrying about adding an additional person to that equation, whether it be friends or a romance.

Many young teens do not realize the importance of self-happiness. Social media sometimes define their happiness. They think the amount of likes they get or the amount of followers that they have is the most important part of happiness at that age.

Reality hits hard eventually and shows you that you really only have yourself. Use your energy running in a park by yourself, listening to your favorite playlist, singing your heart out in the shower until your voice cracks.

Do things to make yourself smile.

Never waste energy on things that take time out of your happiness in your life. You cannot get those seconds back. Some things may seem like they need your energy, but they do not. They want to consume your energy.

Focus on smiling through the positive vibes your body gives off. Listen to your inner-self telling you that you can laugh at your own jokes. Laugh a little more.

Energy cannot be replaced.

When it comes to Bloomington-Normal, there are many outstanding factors that any Illinois State student can say are unique to our college town (and maybe others too). Proud or not, we Redbirds know all the ins and outs of Blono.

1. The wait for Buffalo Wild Wings is always going to be long on Thursday nights.
