This Is What's Really Going To Happen On January 20th

On January 20th, everything that we have strived for in the past eight years, all the improvements that we have made as a society, all the barriers that we have conquered and dismantled -- they are thrown aside and rejected.

Over the past few days, I have been struggling to find a topic for which I should write my next article on. Then I went to Tumblr. What I found at the top of my dashboard was a statement about what will actually happen on Inauguration day. With Inauguration Day soon coming, I think it would be fitting to write an article about the Inauguration of the soon to be “President Donald J. Trump”. And what is really going to happen on January 20th.

So let’s break this down. Not only does our country get its first president with literally no experience in politics, as well as the first “Cheeto” president, but there are also a number of underlying effects as a result of Trump being sworn into office. Effects that some choose to bury and instead celebrate that “crooked Hillary” lost the election. But on January 20th my life, and the lives of those close to me, as well as many Americans will be changed forever…

On January 20th, not only does Trump get elected into office, but my best friend becomes a target of bigotry and hate because he is Pakistani. The one person who has been closer to me than anyone before. The one person who has had my back for years, who I am proud to call my brother will be meet with spite. By a prejudice America who somehow refuses to see anything more than a Muslim American. Because they won’t take five minutes to have a discussion with him, before forming an opinion.

On January 20th, my rights as a member of LGBTQ+ are no longer acknowledged by my bigoted coworkers and I no longer feel safe in my place of work. I hear them, the way they address pride members. “There a bunch of Nancy’s” “that shit ain’t right”, “they’re going to hell” and my personal favorite “someone should shoot them”. Although a majority of these disgraceful comments are coming from bigoted, blue collar simpletons, who lack ANY form of college education. This is still not right. I should not have to feel ashamed for who I am every time I walk into work. I have rights, I am a human being just like them, and I expect to be treated as such. Why should we have to run in fear just because we are different. Why can't they see past this line of bigoted stereotypes and see us for who we really are. Normal people who live our lives just like anyone else.

On January 20th, rape culture becomes a prominent part of our society. We have elected a disgusting, perverted, sexist, pig who believes that “woman should be grabbed by the pussy”. I weep for the future, I really do. When a young woman can no longer feel safe from sexual predators, whilst walking back to her dorm at night. And when these cases are brought to light, rather than holding the scum who commit these actions accountable. We choose to shift the blame to “you were drinking, what did you expect” or “well you shouldn’t have been wearing that short skirt.” Instead of saying “You are the problem here. You deliberately took advantage of her against her will.” I had to do a research paper on rape culture earlier on in the semester, and I had presented a survey to a friend from high school. One of the questions pertaining to rape culture. She had stated that rape culture is an oxymoron because in a culture you must be sophisticated. Yet no sophisticated individual would ever do something so low as to take advantage on another person sexually. (That is only what those frat boys do who are too busy drinking beer to attend a single lecture do.) Yet rape culture has now found a permanent home in our society. Now instead of educating young men that it is NEVER ok to take advantage of anyone sexually, we are focusing on telling young women that they shouldn't dress or conduct themselves in a certain manner if they do not wish to be sexually assaulted. Where is the logic in that?

On January 20th, the word “Feminist” loses its meaning. Do you know how many times I’ve been told and I quote “you can’t be a feminist, you have a dick…" Seriously guys. The word feminist has nothing to do with the male bashing extremist that are ridiculed by fox news. No the word Feminist means someone who strives for a utopian society where everyone is endowed with the same rights, no matter what their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs may be. It is the destruction of the wage gap, allowing for both men and woman to make an equal salary in whatever job they may choose. What is so wrong about that? I for one am not ashamed to say that I am a white upper-middle-class male, who stands behind the feminist movement completely. But now we have lost the meaning of the word feminist. The word is polluted by individuals like Rush Limbaugh and his “Feminazis”.

On January 20th, everything that we have strived for in the past eight years -- all the improvements that we have made as a society, all the barriers that we have conquered and dismantled-- will be thrown aside and rejected. As we pave the way for a Republican-dominated country, where anyone who is considered different is no longer acceptable. A country where hatred flows and peace and acceptance are mocked and thrown aside because they no longer matter. This is what is really going to happen on January 20th. Trump represents all the vileness and bigotry that has now crept out from the lowest parts of our country to bask in his distasteful glory.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
