What happens when something you look forward to is gone?

Anticipation (n); The act of anticipating, expecting, and predicting.

We’re always looking forward to something in life. Whether it's sleep after a long day of class, work, or homework; Thanksgiving break, Christmas break, or summer. We even look forward to that one night a week when our favorite show airs a new episode.

But what happens when after weeks, months, maybe even years of anticipating some major event, it’s gone.

What happens when that night of sleep, that desired weekend, that special birthday vanishes faster than ever?

For most of this calendar year, I’ve been struggling with the reality that the events I look forward to with such passionate anticipation are fast-paced. Events I have truly treasured and appreciated before but now they are just leaving me empty handed and with zero clue on what will happen next.

My entire spring semester, was spent wishing and praying summer would come faster. But once that came and went as quickly as every summer does, I evaluated everything I had coming up in the next half of the year that I could excitedly anticipate.

I looked forward to a new set of classes, fall recruitment, fall break, the possibility that the Cubs could win the World Series (which they did) and my upcoming twenty-first birthday.

Now that most of these events are just sweet memories, what happens next?

I’m an ambitious person. I like setting goals and achieving these goals. But what do I after this is over?

Well, I must remind myself that life goes on; and when life goes on it gifts us the opportunity to find new moments to look forward to with pure excitement - both in the short and long terms.

After this anticipation-filled, thrilling year of my life comes to an end, I have a clean slate to write out an entire new set of goals and expectations that I can look forward to with my whole heart.

So, if you find yourself asking, “What’s next?” remember that wherever there’s an ending, there’s an opportunity for a new beginning.

Summer always comes back around, your dreams and aspirations for the future are always something to keep working towards, there will always be an entertaining hour of television that you must watch each week, and each day is laced with little moments that you can eagerly anticipate. What’s next? Let me tell you, there’s still so much in store.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
