Apple introduced the release of the newest iPhone, saying: "iPhone 7 dramatically improves the most important aspects of the iPhone experience. It introduces advanced new camera systems. The best performance and battery life ever in an iPhone. Immersive stereo speakers. The brightest, most colorful iPhone display. Splash and water resistance. And it looks every bit as powerful as it is. This is iPhone 7."
What they don't say is that there is no headphone jack.
Sorry, I might be a little bitter.
They're releasing "AirPods." They sound so close to earbuds, yet are not the same.
As a strong believer in earbuds and the satisfying feeling of wrapping their chord around my phone as such:
I am a bit concerned.
While I know that Apple is a technology company and that, yes, Bluetooth earbuds couldn't be far behind Bluetooth headphones, I guess it really comes down to one thing:
I am going to lose these!
Luckily, there will be a transition period that allows you to plug in your old earbuds using a charger-to-earbud-jack adapter.
OK, enough of that. What other differences will there be in the iPhone 7?
First of all, you can get the phone in new black and jet black finishes, there will be a new home button (which allows for different "click" pressures) and the phone claims to be splash and water resistant (which would be extremely helpful for someone who tends to listen to music while walking through rain on campus. Or someone who may or may not have accidentally murdered her iPod in the washing machine last month—me.)
And about the new camera system, which is now composed of two cameras, Apple says this: "The same 12MP wide-angle camera that’s on iPhone 7 works with a 12MP telephoto camera that can get even closer. That means you can get higher-quality zoom from farther away. And with an all-new depth-of-field effect (coming soon), portrait shots will look better than ever. Say hello to the world’s best photo op."
As someone who is not a photographer, this means something along the lines of being able to zoom in more and being able to make the background of a photo blurry so what you are actually taking a photo of stands out. Artsy.
The new iPhone is brighter and more colorful and has an A10 Fusion chip, which is faster when you are using it, and takes less power when you aren't, giving you a longer battery life.
It has a new stereo and speaker system and is louder than any of the other iPhones. Prepare for the jams.
So, how do you feel about the new iPhone?
Also, Apple, I'm still waiting for the whole hologram thing.
