What's In The Way?

Losing focus is easy. Keeping it isn't.

What's In The Way?
David Bell

Let's talk for a second. Are you where you want to be spiritually? Are you growing at the rate you want to be? Do you feel as if there's something in between you and God? Do you want to be closer to Him? Me too. We should always want to be closer to God but sometimes things come up in between us and Him.

At the very beginning of 2017, I had the honor of attending the Passion Conference with my friends in Atlanta, Georgia. It was such an incredible trip and an even better experience being in the presence of the Lord for such a long time. Going into the week, I had high expectations for what God was going to do because of all that He had done in the past during Passion. If we're being honest, I wasn't really focused during the first half or so of the conference. I had a lot of distractions coming in and that hindered my ability to learn and listen to Him. During the second day, I ended up getting sick and not being able to attend the last night. While I was laid up in the hotel sicker than I've been in a while, the presence of the Lord was the most evident I've ever experienced. Sometimes God has to remove everything in front of us so our eyes have no choice but to focus on Him.

The problem I've found in my own life is that I get distracted from who God is. I lose sight of what He's done for me and all that He continues to do around me. Losing sight of Him can also lead us to become unappreciative of what He does and has done in our lives. Shouldn't the King of Heaven who continues to provide breath in our lungs be ever on our minds? But He's not, is He?

Life is hard. It comes with so many different distractions. My prayer is that we remember Who it is we should continue to focus on. Through all the challenges and temporary things this world has to offer us, may we look past all the muck and mire of this world and keep our eyes where they belong; focused on Jesus. Much love and God bless.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
