What's In My Time Capsule

A few things I would put into my own personal time capsule to give the future a glimpse into the past.

With technology and social media, it is crazy to think our existence would ever fade away. It will be there for generations to come. With a click of a button, someone 50 years from now can search our names into google, or whatever the new social media is, and probably find our entire life story's from Facebook posts, Instagram pictures, and Tweets.

But what if it all got wiped out one day? What if the only way for your grandkids, and great grandkids, to remember you by was a time capsule that you buried today? What would you put in it?

I took some time to think about what 10 items have represented my life so far to put into my time capsule.

Recipes

No matter what changes in the future, there is one thing that will always be essential and that's food. I would hope some new foods come out and people get more creative with cooking, but just in case I would leave some classic recipes behind so they still know good food. A few personal favorites that should never go out of style are baked mac n cheese and homemade soup for those sick and rainy days.

Old Birthday/ Holiday Cards

Being a Pisces I am inevitably sentimental and of course, keep special cards people have written to me over the years. I would include some of my favorites in the time capsule so the future knows what it looks and feels like to be surrounded by people who love you.

A Lock of My Hair

Bear with me, but 50 years is a long time. Maybe by then, they will be able to replicate humans using our DNA. If the future can do that, of course, I would want them to re-create a new version of myself.

My Favorite Outfit

The idea of what constitutes as style is always changing. Even from the short time I've been alive, it has changed dramatically. I have fallen into some bad trends but it always gives me a good laugh to look back and say, "What was I thinking?!" I would put on a pair of my favorite jeans, sweater, and favorite heels. If I had to guess, they future would laugh at me for wearing such high heels because they are IMPOSSIBLE to walk in. Hopefully, they find a solution for cute- high heels by then.

A Good Book

I have yet to read that one, really good book. But as soon as I find it it will definitely go into my time capsule.

A Photo Album

I feel like we all depend on our phones for pictures nowadays. In my opinion, nothing beats the feeling of opening up an album of pictures and flipping through the pages reminiscing about what was going on during those moments. I would have the pages filled with pictures of my family, friends, graduations, parties, summer nights and everything in between that made smile.

FRIENDS- The Complete Series

At the rate Netflix is taking shows off of its website, I can almost guarantee Friends will be gone in 50 years. I hope TBS is still showing reruns but in case they aren't I would want the future to be able to laugh at a TV as much as I did. Create friendships with the characters of 10 seasons, then rewatch it as soon as "The Last One" ends.

There is no time like the present to reflect on what we have and all that makes us happy!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
