So I've been focusing a lot lately on writing about relationships in my life. I am a daughter of Christ, a daughter of my parents, a sister, a friend, an aunt and finally, a Godmother.
And this week's topic of discussion is about my role of being a sister. So let's talk about what it means to be a sister. Being a sister means being supportive, being present, and most importantly admitting when you're wrong.
Being supportive: It means that when your sibling has a difficult decision to make in their life or they need advice, you give your opinion but also support their ultimate decision. It means that you put their happiness before your own and that you have their back 110% of the time. Being supportive means to not be selfish and to always, always love them no matter what decisions or choices they make.
Being present: It means to be in your siblings lives. Really be there. Birthdays, holidays, activities, accomplishments. As a sister, you should be there for it all. There are no excuses and no maybes. You only get so much time to grow up together and spend time with each other on this earth, you have to make every single moment worthwhile.
Admitting when you're wrong: I'm probably the most stubborn person in my family don't get me wrong, but I also know that a crucial part of being a good sister is admitting your mistakes. When you're arguing with your siblings, it's important not to say anything you're going to regret; even if that means having to listen to you sisters' get mad at you for not asking their permission to wear their clothes or yelling back at your brother when he makes fun of you.
So next time you spend time with your siblings, argue with them, or even talk to them remember that God gave you siblings but He also gave you best friends through those siblings and even though it's one of the hardest jobs, keeping a relationship with them brings you one of the greatest joys in life.
